Grand Canyon, Arizona

Hey! We have arrived at the Grand Canyon! There are many National Forrest roads all over the place ( these are the roads you are legally allowed to freedom camp) so finding spots to set up camp has been very easy. These usually have spots for tents/vehicles, fire pits with grills and If your lucky you'll find picnic tables and drop toilets. When we arrived the heat was so strong here, as it's mainly desert! However, we woke up this morning to snow and it has been going all day. Luckily we managed to fit a hike in yesterday and should be able to do more tomorrow:-)  The sights are unbelievable.  There are camping services inside the Nationa Park, so we have been able to do laundry and have HOT showers! Much  nicer that cold buckets :-) Grace xxx

Seqouia National Forrest to Las Vegas

Hi everyone! I had posted the blog below (Yosemite National Park) awhile ago. However, I only just realised that it hadn't published!! A lot of travelling around has happened since then! Seqouia National Forest was our next stop. As soon as we were out of  Yosemite and nearing Seqouia, the terrain changed from luscious green to dry dessert. It has been very hot (compared to freezing Lake Tahoe!)  Seqouia National Forrest had a range of free campsites nestled along the river. Now, we are in Las Vegas!! Slight change in atmosphere :-) We've been here for a couple of days and so far my favourite thing to do is people watch! There's a lot of homeless here which breaks my heart..and also a lot of high rollers. Very diverse and interesting to observe.  Lots of love to all family and friends back home who read these posts.  We miss everyone a lot xxxxx

Yosemite National Park

Hello! We have been out of reception camping just outside of the Yosemite National Park. It's National Park week so we were able to enter the park for free (usually $45 NZ).  We planned on camping at the campgrounds inside the park, but they were booked and also quite expensive. Instead, we found a beautiful campsite just outside of the park that was free. We met a few other couples there that are travelling the same area which was neat :-) Yosemite is absolutely beautiful. We managed to do a couple of hikes up to two stunning waterfalls. This morning we left the camp and are headed toward Sequoia National Park. We want to make the most of this free National Park week!! Diamond Peak Ski Resort

What a fabulous day up the mountain today! It is early spring here so it's the last few days of the ski season. We pretty much had the mountain to ourselves! Theo's Aunty and Uncle gave us snow outfits to wear when we were with them which was so handy!  Dinner tonight was pork on rice with refried beans and  chilli sauce, Brussel sprouts and a salad :-)  Grace X X X

Lake Tahoe

Hey all! Lake Tahoe, our first stop has been stunning. The people, the views, the weather! We had some difficulty finding open campsites as its not quite the open season just yet (too much snow around). Luckily, we found the forest ranger office and a lady called Maggie who helped us out with mapping out all the open (and free) campsites! Tonight we found one right beside a lake. Very basic, no toilets or kitchens..just picnic tables and fire pits:-) We explored around the lake today. There are some gorgeous wee villages wooden lodges and beautiful trees around. Tomorrow we are going snowboarding at Diamond Peak ski fields. Well, Theo will be boarding and I'll probably be on my bum the whole time lets face it! (Still learning!!) We found great prices online and a discount if we show our boarding passes from our flight!

USA road trip!!

Hello lovely family and friends! We are back in action- I promise I'll upload more posts! Today we are off on our six week road trip! We have hired a Dodge Caravan 2011. (Similar to a people mover. It can seat 7 people). We have put the seats down and put an air bed in. We have our gas cooker, chilly bin and our sleeping bags! Today we are heading towards Lake Tahoe from Davis. Hoping to find a good free campsite around there so we can explore for a few days!  Theo's Aunty Alice kindly gave us her tent to use, so we may do some wilderness camping also! Sending all our love to everyone back home. Missing you all. Grace xxxx

Oregon, USA

Hi everyone! Sorry I have not written for awhile..and I need to write quick before going out of reception again. We are staying with Theo's Aunty and Uncle at their beautiful vineyard and winery in Oregon. We have a lovely lodge amongst the trees. Just a quick note to let you know we are still here! Will write again when I have more time in reception. Love to everyone! XXXX
