Koh Ta Kiev Island

We're back from Koh Ta Kiev Island!

What a beautiful place. The last few days have been perfect. So relaxing, just what we needed after some pretty crazy cities that we have been visiting recently.

We departed for our day trip on a boat from Otres Beach on Tuesday and that took us snorkelling around a couple of the surrounding islands. We visited elephant rock for some cliff diving..(Theo jumped but not I!)

Spot the cliff diver!

Then we headed for Koh Ta Kiev where the other people on the boat were just visiting for a few hours and then going back to the mainland, whereas we decided to stay.

The tour guide spoke very little English so it was impossible explaining to him where we wanted to be dropped off (especially because we didn't know where it was exactly!) so he ended up stopping the boat and we had to get off right there.

We had to carry our 18kg bags on our heads to get them on and off the boat dry
Where are we??? !!

We discovered that people bring their own tents to the island and pay a $2 fee to set up camp. Unfortunately, we didn't have a tent and the cost of hiring one was a similar price to a private bungalow, so we went for the bungalow. This little place was called 'Koh Ta Kiev Bungalows'. A khmer family run business. It was just meters from the ocean and very peaceful.

The downside:No bathroom included. We had to venture up around the property to find only one toilet available. No showers either. Guests are provided with one large container and a bucket that is filled with fresh cold water. So we made our own shower out of a large water bottle which we poked holes all around. We had turns pouring it from the balcony of the bungalow :) :)

We caught the boat back at 2pm today and are now staying back in the centre of Sihanoukville. Looking at making our way to Vietnam soon. But, we will be here for a few more days.

We have been thinking about everyone back at home and hope you are all well.

Talk soon

Made it to Phuket

Hi all:-) just a post to let you know we have arrived in Phuket. We are now researching into where to go from here! We think we will travel to Koh Phi Phi island today ( very famous from the movie 'The Beach' with Leonardo DiCaprio). Food market lastnight was amazing! With love <3 Grace

Calungute, Goa

We are feeling much better about life in India this week. One night at Vailannkani Guest House turned into six nights. The cleanliness and comfort was just what we needed. This week has consisted mainly of walking the markets, eating, playing cards on the beach, eating some more and exercising. Even though it is the monsoon season here it really doesn't rain that often. A dark, gloomy cloud will once or twice bucket down for five minutes and then it will be over. We have decided to venture to North India for a week and have booked flights for tomorrow to Jaipur in Rajasthan, from there we will go to Udaipur and on the 2nd of September we fly to Kerala. We hope all is well with everyone back home. Pai :-)

We thought we loved Chiang Mai but we have totally fallen for Pai!! Today we were up at 7am. A difficult task these days. Headed to Pai. The road, we were told, can be very dangerous. Checked out the minivan option..heard only horror stories of crazy bus drivers, people fearing for their lives, and vomit. Hmmm. So we decided to take it on ourselves!! Hired the scooter for some extra days. Chucked our bags into a minivan (they took them to Pai for us-very handy!) and off we went!  We were very happy with our decision to drive the road ourselves, as we got to see the most stunning scenic views. Something you would not be able to see in a winding minibus. It took us a little longer than five hours to get to Pai. Pai is a lovely, relaxed little town. We are staying in a gorgeous little bungalow about ten minutes from the centre of town. The gardens are beautiful!
