Jaipur-Day One

We arrived on our delayed plane at about 11pm lastnight. To get to our backpackers we took an Uber from the airport for the mere cost of 176 rupees ($3.70) for a half our ride.

Our backpacker is pretty grungy and run down but we had a good night sleep without any creepy crawlies (bed bugs) and there is a washing machine here, so we are happy. The blaring of traffic horns woke us at 6am and it has been non-stop all day.

Jaipur is difficult to describe. It's noisy, chaotic and raw. But it is also beautiful, authentic and welcoming all at the same time. We will be walking down the street and in just one minute we will be yelled at with the words:'TAXI-TUK-TUK' at least ten times, we'll see beautiful, historic buildings with magnificent details. But in that same minute we'll see naked children washing on the street and elderly begging for money. It's tough, but what an experience. Often, the indian people just want a photo of us. It's hard to know when someone is expecting something.

Today we visited the City Palace and bought an audio tour to go with it. Unforunately we couldn't take pictures inside the buildings but we were able to get some from the outside.

It was really hard to find any decent food around the City Palace. We found one place we thought was okay. Vege Thali and and traditional Rigisthan meal for 220 Rupees ($4.70).

Next we went to see the Hawa Mahal. This is a palace it was built in 1799. It is basically a high screen that was built so the women of the royal household could observe street festivals whilst unseen from the outside.

For lunch we found a nice restaurant away from the hustle and bustle because it was on a rooftop. I was particularly happy here because it was a trusted restaurant rated highly (but with very good prices) so I managed to get a salad! (we can't have salad in India as they often wash with tap water which could make us very ill).

Later for dinner, we went to the rooftop restaurant at a hostel around the corner from us. We're a bit annoyed because this hostel is SO much better than ours. Very popular, modern and just very cool. Although, the prices are higher as expected.

Tomorrow we have a tuk-tuk picking us up at 10am. We met the driver today and he spoke English very well and had good knowledge of Jaipur's culture and history so he will be driving us around for the day. 10-5.30pm for 500R ($10.80).

That's it from us!

Hello :-)

Hello Everyone! Sorry we have been away from the computer the last few days! Both Theo and I have been unwell with a bad tummy bug :-S We were trapped in our Bangkok accommodation for about three days! Luckily we were able to do some exploring before and after all of this, and we are now at the airport heading to Chiang Mai for the week. Bangkok has been pretty chaotic, we started out just off Khaosan Road which is the backpackers central. In his element ordering Thai street food (Probably what made him sick !!) We then moved to a quieter area but still close to everything. We took the boat ferry for 14 Baht each ( 60 cents ) to the Grand Palace. What a beautiful place! But as usual, packed with tourists! On the boat taxi We saw a Symphony Orchestra in the park More updates to come. Miss and love you all xxx

Travel changes and update! :-)

Hello :-) We have made some decisions in the last week and have now got some plans set in stone. Tomorrow we fly to Colombo, Sri Lanka. We had planned on staying a whole month but we are now only staying about ten days. Apparently this is a nice amount of time to see the sights of Sri Lanka and we are both keen on getting on the homestretch! Our next destination is Boracay Island in the Phillipines. We are flying there via Kuala Lumpar on the 28th of September and plan to stay for around 5 full days/7 days including travel. Not booked yet, but in the making is our flight from Boracay to Melbourne (5th October...?) We think we will stay in Melbourne and visit family for about a week and then... we are coming HOME!!! :-) See you soon! xxxx G & T
