Paris

The city of love... :-)

As you know from my previous post, our flight was delayed from Barcelona to Paris so we got in alot later than we had thought we would. We arrived in Paris, took a train from the airport to the closest station to our hotel and walked from there. We stayed at an Ibis Hotel as we found the Airbnb's and backpackers were actually more expensive than a hotel. We weren't expecting too much from it but we were pleasantly surprised with our small but clean room. It was around thirty minutes from the city and in a bustling area with a river and lots of summer festivities going on.

On Monday, we got ourselves some bikes that are plotted around the city. Basically the first 30 minutes is free and then they start charging. So being backpackers on a budget, we rode around and every 30 minutes we checked our bikes back into one of the bike slots, waited two minutes and then pulled them out again, meaning we got them for free! We biked all around the city and had a picnic in view of the Eiffel Tower.

We planned to hit the Louvre on Tuesday but I (Grace) fell ill with a severe headache (migraine?!) on Monday night and slept until 2pm Tuesday. Finally managing to pull all my energy together, we got ourselves on the metro only to find out at the Louvre that it is not open on Tuesdays. We did manage to buy tickets however, so that we could head there in the morning and see a little more of the city before our flight to Rome in the evening.

It was hilarious how many tourists were standing in front of the Mona Lisa........

Next up was Rome. Blog on it's way.

Made it to Phuket

Hi all:-) just a post to let you know we have arrived in Phuket. We are now researching into where to go from here! We think we will travel to Koh Phi Phi island today ( very famous from the movie 'The Beach' with Leonardo DiCaprio). Food market lastnight was amazing! With love <3 Grace

Calungute, Goa

We are feeling much better about life in India this week. One night at Vailannkani Guest House turned into six nights. The cleanliness and comfort was just what we needed. This week has consisted mainly of walking the markets, eating, playing cards on the beach, eating some more and exercising. Even though it is the monsoon season here it really doesn't rain that often. A dark, gloomy cloud will once or twice bucket down for five minutes and then it will be over. We have decided to venture to North India for a week and have booked flights for tomorrow to Jaipur in Rajasthan, from there we will go to Udaipur and on the 2nd of September we fly to Kerala. We hope all is well with everyone back home. Love and miss you all. xxx G & T Baga Beach Our lady of Piety Chapel Local fruit.veg shop - 90p/$1.70 for cabbage, capsicum, 7 bananas and 5 tomatoes Walking from Calangute Beach to Baga Beach Baga Beach Local restaurants on the beac...

Pai :-)

We thought we loved Chiang Mai but we have totally fallen for Pai!! Today we were up at 7am. A difficult task these days. Headed to Pai. The road, we were told, can be very dangerous. Checked out the minivan option..heard only horror stories of crazy bus drivers, people fearing for their lives, and vomit. Hmmm. So we decided to take it on ourselves!! Hired the scooter for some extra days. Chucked our bags into a minivan (they took them to Pai for us-very handy!) and off we went!  We were very happy with our decision to drive the road ourselves, as we got to see the most stunning scenic views. Something you would not be able to see in a winding minibus. It took us a little longer than five hours to get to Pai. Pai is a lovely, relaxed little town. We are staying in a gorgeous little bungalow about ten minutes from the centre of town. The gardens are beautiful!
